What does it mean to be a Responsible Tourist?

There are lots of little things you can do while on holiday in Goa to help protect this beautiful destination, not only for the people that live here, but for the people who will visit in the future. This is how you can choose right while you are on holiday in Goa!

Do some research and ask your accommodation some basic questions to see if they really are as eco-friendly as they claim to be

1.

Do some research to ensure that you only give your business to eco-friendly and responsible businesses in general – websites like rtcgoa.org will help!

2.

Reduce your plastic waste at all times – dispose of waste in the correct places, carry reusable bags/bottles, avoid purchasing items that have excess packaging, avoid plastic cutlery/straws

3.

Support local business – always buy from local (preferably organic) sources, but still be mindful that what you buy (souvenirs, local crafts etc.) are sustainably sourced and not made from endangered species like coral

4.

Respect local communities – learn a few words in the local language, interact respectfully, dress appropriately, don’t be noisy

5.

If you partake in any form of wildlife tourism, make sure that it is conducted ethically – for example, riding elephants is to be avoided

6.

Make efforts to reduce your carbon emissions through the transport choices you make
